Every summer, the shores of the magnificent Lake Alakol draw together people with a passion for nature, birdwatching and wide, open horizons. It is here that Kazakhstan’s only birdwatching festival takes place-a distinctive event that brings together ecotourism, education, science and creative expression.
The festival serves as a focal point for ornithologists, wildlife photographers, travellers and those seeking a more mindful way of отдых, understood as a form of leisure that emphasises connection with nature and personal awareness. Participants have the opportunity to observe rare and migratory bird species in their natural habitats, while also taking part in guided field excursions led by experts, as well as lectures and practical workshops.
The programme features field observations at sunrise and sunset, educational sessions, photography tours, and a range of cultural activities, including art installations, exhibitions and themed gatherings. Particular emphasis is placed on biodiversity conservation, the development of environmental awareness, and the promotion of sustainable tourism practices.
The Alakol Festival is more than an event; it is a platform for dialogue, the exchange of knowledge and the cultivation of a new relationship with the natural world. Each participant becomes part of a living ecosystem, leaving not only with lasting impressions, but with a deeper, more conscious understanding of the value of the environment.
